| Barossa Old Vine Shiraz The fruit for The Octavius 1999 was sourced from very old Barossa Shiraz vineyards, producing low crops (1-2 tonne per acre). With another perfect growing season throughout 1998 and 1999, the 1999 vintage promised to be yet again of exceptional quality. The wine is intensely rich and predominantly fruit driven. The colour is deep cherry red with purple hues and the nose is rich in violets, cherries and plums, with hints of licorice and a dusty smoky oak overtone. The palate explodes with sweet fruit of plums and dark, juicy red berries. It is very well structured with tight and firm tannins, finishing with a rich balanced extract that lingers deliciously. The wine will cellar very well and see through at least 10 years.
