Yalumba FSW8B Botrytis Viognier 2009
5 stars - "Australia makes world class botrytis-affected sweet whites. This has marmalade, apricot, candied peach and exotic spice aromas of thrilling intensity and complexity. Luscious flavours of mango and sweet citrus flow through a silky palate of mellow texture, perfect balance and a lingering, tangy finish. Drink over three years. Food ideas: Fruit and ice-cream desserts; raspberry pancakes."
Ralph Kyte-Powell, The Age - Epicure, 20 December 2011
94 points - "Exotic tropical fruit bouquet, with fresh apricot, vanilla, crème-brûlée, ginger and cardamom; the palate is unctuous, yet not heavy, with a delightfully refreshing cold tea component cleaning up the finish."

Sweet victory for our Wrattonbully Botrytis Viognier
The Macquarie Group Sydney Royal Wine Show culminated in style on Thursday, February 17, with a swag of medals for seven Yalumba wines.
The Yalumba FSW8B Botrytis Viognier 2009 was awarded the Hanaminno Perpetual Trophy for the best sweet white wine (class 7), as well as receiving top gold. The accolades bring the FSW’s total haul to three trophies, five gold medals and one silver. Yalumba The Menzies 2009 and Yalumba The Octavius 2008 were both awarded gold medals, while another five Yalumba wines received silver (full list below).
Yalumba Chief Winemaker Louisa Rose passed on her congratulations to all the teams involved.
“It’s great to see both the traditional styles of wines, such as Cabernet and Shiraz, and the more recent varieties and styles, like the FSW, doing so well,” she said. “Particularly within the ever increasing competitive market that is the Australian wine industry.”

90 points - "The 2009 FSW 8B Botrytis Viognier gives intense, musky, honey drizzled dried apricot and marmalade notes with some candied peel and a whiff of peach blossom. Very sweet (161 grams per liter of residual sugar), crisp and viscous in the mouth, this rich ‘sticky’ finishes with lingering notes of pure apricot. Drink it now to 2014."
Lisa Perotti-Brown, The Wine Advocate (USA) #192, December 2010
"Fresh intense and limey, with hints of apricot and tropical fruit. Beautifully made, intense, long and balanced by clean acidity. Brilliant."
